Being active has been the one constant in my life since I was a teenager. Some of the sports I have participated in include marathon-running, dragonboat rowing, yoga, CrossFit, strength-training, to name a few. For me, working out is the stepping stone to feeling good about the body and mind, and the positive vibes ripple to the areas of self-care in nutrition and lifestyle.
However, the repeated experience of downtime due to fatigue, DOMS and injuries made me wonder if this is an inevitable part of exercise. I could not reconcile with this conclusion as I consider how exercise and sports are meant to add quality to longevity instead of leaving us in pain, aches and injuries.
The idea that rest and recovery is the space where the body and mind not only recover but strengthen began to resonate with me. Using breathwork, movement, meditation and singing bowls therapy, I am a passionate advocate for the message that mindful recovery is as critical an area in holistic wellness along with movement and nutrition to gain a balanced, sustainable, healthy and joyful lifestyle.
I am also a certified Precision Nutrition Coach (L1) and completed the RYT 200 training under Yoga Alliance.
I was a CrossFit coach between 2011-2016 and was part of the team from Singapore that competed in the CrossFit Regionals 2014 held in Seoul. We emerged as one of the top 10 teams in the region at the semi-competition.
